A CWFC/NoSleep crossover?… be still, my beating heart! Can’t wait to listen!

AND you’ve got links to all the NoSleep Christmas Episodes??? This just keeps getting better!

  3. Adam Parker says:

Regarding ‘Non-Christmas Songs Stolen By Christmas’, I often find my favourite Christmas movies have added some songs into my mind that make me feel Christmas giddy all throughout the year.

For example, ‘Pennies from Heaven’ in Elf and ‘Cool Jerk’ by the Capitols, as sung by Frank in Home Alone 2!.
On a sad note, Joni Mitchell in Love Actually makes me both sad and christmassy feeling at the same time!

Finally, I have heard of the No Sleep Podcast before but never got around to it but I think it’s time (starting with the Christmas ones, of course!)

Great podcast!!! You two touched on so many topics. Mr. Cummings’ descriptions of his Christmases made me think of two things: My favorite Christmas songs and favorite Christmas gifts given. I wonder which one of Nancy Wilson’s songs your listeners would like better–“That’s What I Want For Christmas” or “The Christmas Waltz”. I also wonder if your listeners have a favorite gift that they gave to someone. I have one that always makes me smile: I was given a “wish list” from a little boy who would be staying in a temporary shelter over Christmas (community tradition to cheer up the children in that shelter). He wanted a cowboy hat, holster & gun, and a 6 pack of ROOTIN’ TOOTIN’ Root Beer. This was before Google & Amazon, so it took some hunting but I found the right root beer for him.

By the way, I agree with Adam Parker–“Pennies from Heaven” could be captured as a Christmas song, and everything song in Love Actually is excellent.

I love, love, love the movie Fred Claus… “Rubber Neckin” by Elvis Presley, it is played instead of “Here Comes Santa Claus”, in an early Santa’s Workshop scene: Fred is dancing on the table and the elves are REALLY getting in to it. Now, whenever I or my family hear this song, it’s CHRISTMAS spirit and the freak flag flies.

  6. Brighton Roc says:

My favorite non-Christmas, Christmas song is, “Baubles, Bangles and Beads” by the Kirby Stone Four. I first heard it through Mark Evanier’s News From Me blog. He wrote about it in exactly this sort of a, “Doesn’t it sound like Christmas but isn’t” context. Indeed, there is nothing explicitly Christmas-y about it (and I rarely hear it in any Christmas mix but my own) but its background, “ting-a-ling” vocals, upbeat rhythm and sound (coming from the same recording era many of our “classic” Christmas songs do) all just feel like Christmas song to me. Best part? Since no one associates it with Christmas I can listen to it all year long without getting funny stares. Take a listen. https://youtu.be/orES0PaBg9g

For “Who Sang It Best?” I submit Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime” by the Shins (https://youtu.be/qReziqBwEr4) or Hanson (https://youtu.be/nOpKKfjDEaA). It’s a favorite song of mine and I really like hearing these versions which add to it (either through arrangement or literally like with Hanson’s new chorus). But what’s “Can’t Wait For Christmas” without an honorable mention? Here’s a version Paul himself did with the cast of “Sing” on the Tonight Show (https://youtu.be/CbjxifMCNeg). Thank you for your show Tim, I look forward to it each month.
