[…] Listen to this episode of the Can’t Wait for Christmas Podcast Author: Tim Babb Title: CWFC 131 – White Christmas (with special guest: Alonso Duralde) […]
WOW!!! I’m not even done listening, but this podcast is so good. You two are so good together, your conversations are so smooth and witty. Doot Doot thank you Bing, for giving the Drifters their version of White Christmas–my fav! Miss the boys. Sorry I missed saying that I liked the fruit cake episode, made me want to make one my Grandma used to make. It was delish and so moist. We had a large family, so we only got a small slice. Thank you for such a great show. I never watched the movie now I don’t have to.
Oh you do, you really do. Aside from all the music and dancing, it actually has a pretty funny script. Not a great plot twist as they said, but some really clever dialogue.
Merry Christmas Tim!
Just listened to your latest episode about White Christmas. I spent most of the interview saying “now wait” “how about” “but isn’t it true….” In other words… I loved it!
White Christmas is my favorite Christmas movie (in a strong fight with A Muppet Christmas Carol) that I used to watch every Christmas eve when Channel 8 would show it after the 10:00 news.
I know you can’t cover everything in one short interview, so I would like to share my favorite bits of trivia that weren’t covered.
1. Dean Jagger, the “Old Man” (General Waverly) being put out to pasture, was 51 when the film was released. The same age as Bing Crosby (6 months older) who came to his rescue.
2. Older Sister Betty (Rosemary Clooney) was 26, as opposed to her Younger sister Judy (Vera Ellan) who was 33.
3. The Inn is the same set used in Holiday Inn.
4. Between Fred Astaire and Danny Kaye, Donald O’Connor was scheduled to star opposite Bing so he could do big dance numbers with Verra-Ellen like they did the year before in “Call Me Madam”. He had to bow out due to a rare illness and the script was reworked for a third time. The role of the anonymous lead male dancer in “Abraham” “Choreography” and “Mandy” would have been O’Connor.
Just for grins: I present the worst drinking game ever! Every time you see Judy’s (Vera-Ellen’s) neck, take a drink. Nobody’s getting tipsy in this game…
Keep up the great work,
Your, not really a Russian, friend.
