One of my favorite non-Christmas songs from a Christmas movie is Pennies from Heaven in Elf. Great topic and once again, you produce a high quality and entertaining show! Thanks for keeping Christmas going all year long!
Here we go; at least 24 hours of “AAAAAAAAAAAAAhlivah Crom-Well, Lord Protectah of Eng-land (Pur-ee-tan)” being stuck in my head! TOTALLY WORTH IT 🙂
First: great podcast. Secondly, know where I am coming from: we are true kindred spirits as we both think Underneath the Tree by Kelly Clarkson may be the best Christmas song ever. I love that song just as much as I despise Christmas Shoes.
However, to say “You’re a Mean One Mr. Grinch” and “Linus and Lucy” AREN’T Christmas songs is just absurd. They were both written specifically for Christmas Specials. You know what songs weren’t written with Christmas in mind at all? Jingle Bells and Sleigh Ride. Both of those songs were written for Thanksgiving pageants and never mention Christmas at all. So I would listen to Jingle Bells all year long before I would listen to Linus and Lucy
Now that I have proved wrong let me say what songs from Christmas movies I enjoy year round that aren’t actual Christmas songs. The film Fred Claus had a terrific scene where Vince Vaugn teaches Wilie the elf how to dance to the Roling Stones Beast of Burden. Its is a very hear warming scene and the song just rocks.
After that Pennies from Heaven always reminds me of Buddy the Elf roaming the streets of New York City causing mayhem. Thanks for the great show, your pal Doug
