I really enjoy the Christmas shoes it brings me joy that the little kid brought the spirit of Christmas back to that man. It’s a little sad about what happened to the kid’s mom but there’s nothing wrong with a sad Christmas song

I just listened to EP166 and want to comment on the “5 Over-hated Christmas Songs” segment. To me, this is a misnomer, as I think you somewhat confused the term ‘song’ with ‘record’, the former being a combination of music and lyrics that can be performed and interpreted in many ways and latter being a specific instance of a song. “Jingles Bells” is a song, recorded many times by many artists. I’d hardly consider it to be hated when both that dog version and Frank Sinatra simultaneously exist. Frank’s is awesome. The dog record is dog doo and certainly deserves a place on the list. I’d be fine never hearing it again, but “Jingle Bells” remains a classic. Just not that version. A song I thought of when I heard the title of the segment is the noxious “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer”. I’ve only heard the one record of that piece of crap (sorry, Tim, just exercising my right of free speech), but I imagine ANY version of that song would blow. (Sorry, again, my 1st Amendment rights…)
I agree that “Feliz Navidad” and “Wonderful Christmas Time” tend to the repetitive and insipid, but the tunes are catchy and I’m fine with hearing them (just not over-hearing them) during the season. Both of those songs got a big boost for me when they were incorporated medley-style into the “Viva Navidad!” show at Disney California Adventure during the holidays. I absolutely love that show and see it multiple times during our Christmas time visits to Disneyland. Way to get elevated by association, “Feliz” and “Wonderful”.

Anther great episode Tim! I especially loved five golden things. I definitely differ with you when it comes to Wonderful Christmas Time though. It’s just plain awful. When it comes on the radio I can’t change the station fast enough. There is no amount of hate sufficient for this song.
My list of the five worst Christmas songs:
1. “Wonderful Christmas Time” – Paul McCartney (Why radio stations keep this irritation in a Christmas rotation they expect otherwise rational people to listen to is beyond me.)
2. “So This is Christmas” – John Lennon (Clearly, no Beatle should ever be allowed to come even remotely close to Christmas music. Ever.)
3. “Blue Christmas” – Elvis Presley (Not a big fan of this song to begin with, and this version makes it so much worse.)
4. “All I Want for Christmas is You” – Mariah Carey. (I used to love this song, but it’s been so overplayed I can’t listen to it anymore.)
5. “Please Come Home for Christmas” – Eagles (I love the Eagles, and I almost put Christmas Shoes here, but this song is not their best work.)
