I listen every week and the best joke this week (or all time was) “Booze: Now, This is not a thing I’m in to but I don’t judge anyone how does. Alcohol makes we tired and it turns out that I get tired everyday for Free. So dang funny I laughed out load.

Meatballs are a major holiday (and every day) food in Sweden. They are a smörgåsbord staple for Christmas, Easter, New Year’s, any celebration. Swedes don’t have a sauce for smörgåsbord meatballs. This year I bought a christmas tree slicone mold for muffins that you recommended in a previous year’s podcast. The Holly and the Ivy is a hold over from the pagan origins of Yule. It sounds best when done in a celtic/haunting manner. See Tarja’s Spirits and Ghosts on YouTube for really haunting Christmas music. My husband and I thought this was a perfect end to 2020. Warning. while the words are traditional, some of the imagery is disturbing, so don’t watch in front of the kiddies.
I used to belong to a Hallmark Ornaments collectors group. We had a christmas ornament gift exchange using the white elephant formula. I really wanted to keep the ornament I bought so I wrapped it in brown butcher paper with a string for a ribbon so no one would take. it. It worked! I got my ornament back and was far enough down the line that no one stole it from me. It is not Christmas, but I would love to be at the New Year’s Party in Sunset Boulevard where Gloria Swanson and William Holden are the only attendees. That would be my perfect NYE party. I would also have liked to attend any event at Holiday Inn.

I have to say I think the ultimate movie Christmas party would have been the 1988 bash at Nakatomi Plaza! 🙂

Another great podcast Tim! Looking forward to trying the meatballs. See you next month!

I just came across an interesting tidbit – let’s call it a Disney/Christmas Crossover cookie crumb (a new bit, perhaps?) Apparently, when you wish upon a star from Pinocchio has become a Christmas song in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. I have no idea if this is true, but the melody is so beautiful that it would be a tragedy if it hadn’t become a Christmas song somewhere. A bunch of artists add this song to their Christmas albums but I don’t think I’ve ever heard it played on Christmas radio in the U.S. I’d love to hear your take on this song, how it became a Christmas standard, and the percent chance Disney/Christmas Crossover Cookie Crumbs become their own bit on CWFC in the future.

I am in Sweden, and yes it is true. It is because of the Donald Duck Christmas special that has been played on tv at 3 pm Christmas Eve since the 1960’s and in theaters with free showings prior to that. The current showing has been edited for political correctness, but “When You Wish Upon a Star” is still a much loved part of it.

I answered the first Merry Musing, so passed this time afraid of being a pod-hog. I was so glad when two, yes TWO people sent in what would have been my answer, the Party at the end of White Christmas! I have watched that movie every year since about 1975, before we had a VCR, but I knew I could catch it on the ABC affiliate after the 10:00 local news every Christmas Eve.

  7. Justin in Nashville says:

Absolutely Jeffery! My grandmother introduced me to White Christmas when I was a teenager, and I’ve watched it every year since! The stage show, Christmas music, the atmosphere, and on top of it all, the snow, make it a great choice for a Christmas party to attend!
