Hey Tim! This month the Tri-M (Merry Music Madness) was SO HARD to choose from! But it also reminded me of my great Burl Ives story, and thought I would share it with you because it’s relative!

I grew up in Anacortes Washington, the town where Burl Ives retired, and everybody loved drive out and see his house at Christmas because he had GIANT figures of Rudolph and the whole gang decorating his house. One dark and snowy night in 1992, I was driving a pregnant friend of mine (8 months pregnant!) out to see Burl’s house because we had no Internet back then, but as we were leaving his place one of the wheels on our car just FELL OFF. That’ll teach ME to buy a used car for under a hundred bucks!

So since we didn’t want to freeze to death, we decided to walk back to Burls house and rang the security buzzer on his front gate. A kindly, elderly voice answered “Hello?” We answered, explained what had happened, added that my friend was VERY pregnant, and we wondered if we could maybe use their phone to call for help. There was no reply.

And then BURL IVES HIMSELF… sent his security guard to the gate to tell us we needed to get off the property immediately or they would be calling the police and pressing charges. We ended up walking to his neighbors house where we used the phone and got a ride home.

Anyways, that’s why I voted for Thurl Ravenscroft.

    Hi Tim!
Long time listener here from Toronto. I’m loving Merry Music Maddness so I have to ask…do you have a playlist on Spotify for all your favourite Christmas song? There are some great songs you play a snippet of for each singer in the MMM but do you have them combined anywhere for us to listen too?

  4. Aprille says:

Oh Tim. How dare you put Burl Ives vs Thurs Ravenscroft! That’s my childhood right there! But I love Thurl and ALMOST met him. I was pruning roses(job) at Morningside retirement home in Fullerton where he lived near the end of his life. I had asked about him at the desk and they told me he had a big Tony The Tiger on the back of his electric scooter. I saw him and almost caught him but he zipped by so fast that I missed him.

    Hi Tim

What’s your Opinions on Ikea meatballs? I personally, like Walmart meatballs better but new that I just learned about the hot now popping deals at Costco… I learned that the cheaper the meatballs the more fake meat it is. But we have to save money because of the tax attorney ahaha.

Anyways Tim, I figured that you liked meatballs because you seem relatively relatable. I do quite enjoy listening to your podcast, my grandson bought be a computer just to listen to it!

I also have another question, can you please do an episode on Christmas food such as the meat of the balls?

    Thanks –

    Dug squires

Merry Music Madness is such a great idea! What a great way to encourage community participation. Did you think of this yourself? If not…if you borrowed the idea…that’s ok. Sure hope whomever originated this gets something for their ingenuity. Will you continue this next year with some new entries?

    • Tim says:

Thank you. Glad you like it. Merry Music Madness was born from a listener suggestion of finding the ultimate Christmas singer and I decided to do a “March Madness” stye competition to have folks pick.

  9. Patrick Hallowell says:

Maybe it’s been suggested already, but how about a Merry Movie Madness for next year?
